Lad’s last-gasp goal saves dad’s blushes

New Cross Irregulars 0 Deptford 3sided FC 3 PFFC 3

Rob, 2 October 2016

This was a good game. It ebbed. It flowed. And it had an awful start, as The Cat conceded a bizarre own goal by kicking it against his own legs and into the back of the net! Billy and Ömer were industrious up front and forced several fine saves from Ben in the New Cross goal. Mark, Alex and Alfie rotated from defence to attack in a workmanlike manner and it was Adams Jnr that saved Philosophy from defeat with a rasping shot into the Deptford FC net seconds from the end.

The anarchic nature of the 3sided game was on display throughout as attack would suddenly switch from one goal to another in the clichéd blink of an eye. The short nature of this ‘report’ is testament to the need to write the night after the game, as my addled brain is struggling to remember any particular detail. Suffice to say, all the men in red performed admirably and deserved pats on the back. I sense that victory is coming, as we started brightly and perhaps faded towards the end when defence wouldn’t always track back, but we would find ourselves on the back foot as NXI and Deptford teamed up against us more often than not, and we battled well.

Squad: Rob, Alfie, Ömer, Mark, Billy, Alex.
